Nikka Whisky brings Hiroyasu Kayama to Australia

Nikka Whisky will bring award-winning Japanese bartender Kayama Hiroyasu to Australia to participate in a series of special events in the coming days.

Kayama was recently selected for Drink International Bar World 100. He is from Bar Benfiddich in Tokyo and his unique cocktail style earned the bar a spot on the list of 50 best bars in the world, ranking 49th in 2018.

On Saturday, September 14th, Kayama and the Nikka Whisky team will participate in a foraging event in Melbourne, where they will search for ingredients unique to the Victorian and winter climates.

Following the foraging event on Sunday, September 15th, Kayama will host a three game exclusive bar takeover event at Above Board in Collingwood. Kayama will guide guests to experience cocktails and showcase selected Nikka whiskey, all of which are a series of complex and charming taste combinations carefully crafted by him, some of which will use ingredients collected the previous day.

On Monday, September 16th, Kayama will travel to Sydney to host a cocktail flight experience at Maybe Sammy, offering limited tickets and a limited number of reserved seats.

Then on Tuesday, September 17th, Kayama will host his "kochuchomi" master class for specially selected attendees.

The guidance master class will use selected Nikka whiskey, which will be carefully and consciously paired with different flavors to create a quasi cocktail in your mouth, a process known as "kochuchomi" in Japan. Kayama will emphasize how he "sees the taste and incorporates it" in cocktails.

The concept of 'kochuchomi' is a Japanese dietary tradition that traditionally consists mainly of rice and a series of side dishes. Kayama chose to use this traditional technology because the concept based on taste is very suitable for cocktails.
